(Allahyarham) MOHD HASHIM MUSTAPHA - MALAYSIA SOCCER LEGEND - by Nik Zafri

Kehilangannya amat dirasai. Hilangnya tiada ganti.
Al-Fatihah

Al-Fatihah

(Am rewriting this back in his honour)

MOHD HASHIM MUSTAPHA - MALAYSIA SOCCER LEGEND

Originally written by Nik Zafri in the Sultan Ismail College Alumni on Wednesday, 26 November 2014 at 00:54

Mohd Hashim Mustapha was my batch since Sultan Ismail Primary School (2) (SIPS2) - at that time located in Padang Garong sharing with Islah, Sultan Ismail Secondary School (SMSI) and finally Sultan Ismail College (SIC). He and many others in the same age group (quoting a name, Hasnan Hassan who is also his best friend) have played for Kelantan State under 18 when he was as young as 12 years old. I recalled the then headmaster of SIPS 2 - Mr Phang Ngit Ming announcing the good news at the assembly (1978) - we were all filled with awe and gave a good round-up applause. Hashim was also known to us as 'Pele Malaysia' for his splendid techniques.
Source : Various including wikipedia
Mohd Hashim Mustapha (born 31 January 1966 in Kota Bharu, Kelantan) is a former Malaysian international footballer. He played for Kelantan FA, Kedah FA, Johor FA, Kelantan JKR FC and Kelantan TNB FC as a striker. He is currently assistant coach for Kelantan FA.

Jersey No. 10

Clubs - Kedah FA : Malaysia FA Cup : 1996

Johor FA : Premier 2 League : 1999

International : 1987 SEA Games:Runners-up

Individual

1993 Premier 1 League: Golden Boots Winner With Kelantan FA (13 goals).

1994 Premier 1 League: Golden Boots Winner With Kelantan FA (25 goals).

Hashim once joined the then Harimau Malaysia where he and his team have been personally coached by the legendary Kevin Keegan (he even impressed Kevin) where the team won so many matches all over Asia including Australia before the team was disbanded.
An anonymous unconfirmed source told me that he was offered by Kevin Keegan to play for Liverpool but for some reason, Hashim is more patriotic towards his home-country. He was also said to be mentored by the legendary footballer

Allahyarham Mokhtar Dahari where Mokhtar mentioning; in one interview; about passing the flag to Hashim.

To many who may not know, Hashim was also known as a 100m and 200m sprint athlete (both individual and relay) besides high jump and long jump (where so many school/college records have been made)

In 100m - he once clocked an average 10.9 -11 seconds (or less) which raised the eyebrows of Jeffri Mohd Noor (who was the record holder at that time) a national sprinter also a student of Sultan Ismail College Kelantan. But Hashim was not really eager to be a sprinter but it was an honour to me personally to be teamed up with him in 4 X 100 metres and 4 X 400 metres - where he took the final dash and awarded victory to our team 'Pasukan Wong'

 (look at him go!)
