Back in the late 90s, I had to build HTML pages manually using Notepad, writing HTML, JavaScript, classes, hyperlinks, everything by hand, and then upload them to Geocities (rest in peace) - previously Fortunecity (rest in peace). Later around 1999, I got to use Microsoft FrontPage (an early version, also long gone) just to manage things like framesets for menus.
By the early 2000s, I moved into using Flash again. In fact, around 2000 I was already doing what many would now see as an early form of “HTML5-style” multimedia integration. Unfortunately, much of it ended up being “hijacked” in a way that prevented my original work from being properly showcased. When my eldest son, my next evolution, now far more advanced than I am, a true multimedia, programming and software development expert saw the launch of HTML5 in 2017, he just smiled and said, “My dad already did this 20 years ago "lah.” That really made me proud. It sometimes feels like that scene from Tron, where the father (Kevin Flynn) meets the son (Sam) in the digital world, reflecting on how far technology has evolved while recognizing how some ideas were already there in earlier forms
